Quiet Time at SOS Kindergarten Lilongwe
All educators at SOS Kindergartens are aware of the importance of quiet, reflective time for children during the hustle and bustle of everyday going on. Here, Annie Kaitano, principle at SOS Kindergarten Lilongwe, reflects on observing a short period of quiet time in one of the group rooms.
Children are going through various books during free play at quiet time.
This activity helps children to get familiar with books before they go to 'big' school. They learn how to open books, care for books and to wash their hands before they start using them.
The children learn to interact with each other and they also learn to be quiet at a certain time and think of what they are looking through the books. They also learn language skills.
Children learn colours, various shapes and figures and they also learn how to hold a book more carefully.
