Pages from our memories
The special SOS memory book is passed around SOS Children's Village Sarajevo. Each child takes a couple of pages to write down his or her thoughts, messages and secrets. Some decided to share their music favourites, others share their beliefs; they make drawings of their wishes and take you back to the magical childhood world. Let's start turning the pages.
Arijana lives in the "Sheep" house (every house at SOS Children's Village Sarajevo bears a name) in the middle of the village. Arijana shares two things that are very important to her: family and friendship. She says: take good care of your family and friendship is the greatest treasure in the world. Arijana has many friends from the village, neighbourhood and from her school, but her closest one is her SOS sister Vermina.
Vermina thinks we should kick back and enjoy life, but shouldn't forget about taking every good opportunity in life. Vermina herself sticks to what she says. She attends the second class of music school and is a promising violinist.
13-year-old Jasmina has many talents. She takes karate lessons, paints, learns Spanish and is always on time to pick up her three SOS brothers and sisters from kindergarten. The mind of this "teen-hood freshman" is full of verses and rhythms of her favourite dance band Colonia (Croatian band). On one of her pages she did her first poetic translation from Bosnian to Spanish.
Sabina from the "Peacock" house despises violence. During the civil war, the girl found safe shelter in Germany with a group of other children from Bosnia & Herzegovina. When she came back, she saw wrecked houses, burned buildings and children wandering the Sarajevo streets hungry and barefoot. Sabina knows the only thing violence ever leads to is misery. Her message is a simple one: don't be violent!
